On March 25th, 2020 Gurdwara Guru Har Rai in Shor Bazaar, Kabul Afghanistan was attacked. Several attackers raided the premises killing 25 and injuring 8, after holding 150+ community members hostage inside the complex which included men, women and children. The casualties included children’s to as low as 3 years old. The trauma continued as a bomb was detonated beside the cremation site of the deceased Sikhs. The Daesh (Islamic State) has claimed responsibility for this attack. In 2018, a group of Sikhs and Hindus were attacked by a suicide bomber in Jalalabad which claimed 19 lives. The Sikh and Hindu community were on their way to recover from with this event and are now struck with a devastating attack at a holy place.
The Afghan Sikhs and Hindus who are fleeing the Afghanistan to seek refuge cannot turn towards India. As India, is not a part of the 1951 Convention on Refugees Act.
